More than 100 members of United Steelworkers Local 5032 have been locked out of their jobs since August when the company unilaterally froze workers' pensions. The workers—who have an average of 30 years of service at the facility—see the cuts as a betrayal.
"Over the years we've done whatever was needed to keep this facility running and profitable," said Johnny Yvorra, USW Local 5032 Unit Chair for Neville Chemical. "In the past two contracts we've worked with the company and accepted deep concessions. Now Neville Chemical management is making money hand over fist and they want to take more from us."
Workers are frustrated by the company's lack of movement. "Neville Chemical has stopped talking to us," said Ron Marino, President of USW Local 5032. "We need Neville Chemical to come back to the bargaining table so we can bargain a fair and equitable contract and get back to producing top-quality chemicals for our customers."
