LodgeNet Healthcare Deploys Custom Education Solution for M. D. Anderson Cancer Center

SIOUX FALLS, S.D., Feb. 24 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- LodgeNet Healthcare today announced the expansion of their interactive patient television system at one of the country's leading cancer hospitals.  In March of 2009, LodgeNet Healthcare and The University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center partnered on designing a state-of-the-art television system capable of delivering interactive services for patients including patient education and entertainment programming.  After working with LodgeNet to entirely rebuild the cable plant and network distribution center, the hospital has now successfully turned on the LodgeNetRX Interactive Television System.  The solution includes a campus-wide fiber and coaxial network, DirecTV® programming, interactive hospital information, entertainment, and custom education on demand.

This was a complex project and one that positively affected inpatients and outpatients.  The new system was installed throughout the M. D. Anderson campus in 11 separate buildings with over 11 million sq. ft. of floor space.  It also was installed in the Rotary House International, owned by M. D. Anderson Cancer Center and managed by Marriott International.  LodgeNet is able to equip the hotel with the same educational videos the patients have access to in their room.  LodgeNet worked closely with hospital administration and engineers in all phases of the project including cable plant and headend design and buildout, television selection and installation and go live.

LodgeNet Healthcare will be discussing this project and other patient television solutions at the upcoming Healthcare Information and Management System Society (HIMSS) conference March 1-4 in Atlanta and the American Society for Healthcare Engineering (ASHE) March 14-17 in San Diego.
