Longest Main Street in America to Get a Weekend Facelift

BELLEVILLE, Ill., Oct. 14 /PRNewswire/ -- Glidden™ Paint is helping add color to the lives of residents in Belleville, IL by donating more than 4,000 gallons of Glidden Premium exterior paints as part of "Paint The Town," a community project focused on reviving neighborhoods with a large scale exterior painting and renovated appearance effort.  Recognized as having the "longest Main Street in America", the city of Belleville is expecting as many as 1,000 volunteers to participate in the event and transform 60 businesses in the heart of the city with a colorful paint makeover.

Paint The Town is a project created by Delilah, a national night time radio personality heard on more than 200 radio stations in America.  The event is designed to inspire consumers and listeners of her radio program to invest time and energy in their respective hometowns and neighborhoods and install pride in the places they call home.

On October 16th and 17th, painters will apply more than 4,000 gallons of Glidden exterior paint in 12 popular colors including:  French grey, onyx black, cinnamon stick, red delicious, honey beige, forest green, rainforest fern, gentle fawn, dapper tan, antique beige, olivewood and white on white.  A team of employees from Akzo Nobel Paints LLC, the parent company of Glidden paint, will be working side-by-side with volunteers over the two-day period.  

Belleville was chosen from more than 100 interested or identified cities because of its civic pride, history of volunteerism within the community, and the physical characteristics that make the project possible.  The city's near 200-year-old history and sense of commitment to its residents through its city management and services is one attribute.  The volunteer effort witnessed in such events as the city's annual art fair is well known. Belleville is land marked by many physical characteristics, including the longest Main Street in America.
