Lorne Abony Makes $185k in Contributions to Texas' ACE Academy
The funds will go towards financial aid, technology, and enrichment programs to strengthen the mission and vision of ACE Academy.
AUSTIN, Texas, Feb. 20, 2019 /PRNewswire/ -- Well-known technology and media entrepreneur, Lorne Abony has contributed $185,000 to ACE Academy in Austin, Texas. The privately funded school will utilize Mr. Abony's contributions by increasing financial aid, technology and enrichment programs.
"The personal approach and accommodations that specialized gifted education programs provide is something that I am very passionate about," Abony said. "It is important that kids are not mislabeled or overlooked in schools just because they learn differently. That's why I admire institutions like ACE that are truly invested in finding the best way for their students to thrive."
Growing up in Toronto, Mr. Abony was educated in innovative gifted academic programs similar to the ones offered at ACE. He has experienced first-hand the value of providing gifted students with gifted education. Mr. Abony has gone on to make a name for himself as a highly successful entrepreneur with many prominent tech ventures including the 2001 co-founding of FUN Technologies ("FUN"), a TSX and AIM-listed company wherein 2004 he became the youngest CEO of a listed company on the Toronto Stock Exchange (TSX). Abony eventually sold FUN in 2006 to Liberty Media for $484 million.
"Entrepreneurs and creative types often have extremely gifted minds, yet they tend to struggle in traditional learning environments," Abony said. "If it wasn't for the specialized course structure and attention that I received throughout my education I would not be where I am today."
Mr. Abony currently resides in Austin, TX where he is the CEO at FastForward Innovations, Ltd. A London Stock Exchange listed investment company with an investment strategy focused on companies that are developing emerging technologies and that are in the earlier stages of development. Mr. Abony continues to support and drive awareness to educational facilities like ACE Academy that provides the best education for gifted students.
"At ACE Academy, our goal is to provide a personalized gifted education for any qualified student who finds ACE to be a fit for their needs," ACE Academy Head of School, Tabitha Molett said. "The importance we place on depth, complexity and social emotional learning, along with small class sizes, makes it possible for our students to engage with the curriculum in meaningful ways. We could not do what we do or provide the resources that our students need without the support from donors like Mr. Abony."
As a private non-profit school, ACE does not receive public funding and relies on tuition, fundraising, and outside donations to operate the school. Mr. Abony's contribution of $185,000 will go directly to aiding tuition costs for ACE Academy students in need of financial support, better technology and expanding the school's enrichments programs such as foreign language and physical education.
About ACE Academy:
ACE Academy is an independent, private school that currently offers gifted programming from Pre-K to 8th grade. Established in 2005, ACE Academy educates an underserved community of learners in Austin, Texas. A commonly accepted statistic is that gifted learners are those who score in the top 5% of IQ tests. A GT student can vary radically in specific abilities or areas (asynchronous development). Because GT children process information differently from the average student, they need a learning environment flexible enough to meet and encourage these differences. Their unique ways of thinking are assets that must be valued and encouraged, or they may be suppressed, hidden, or lost.
