Los Angeles Jewish Home Announces Opening Of Brandman Centers For Senior Care (BCSC)

Innovative healthcare program provides nursing home level-of-care services to seniors living in the community

RESEDA, Calif., Jan. 2, 2013 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Los Angeles Jewish Home today announced the opening of the Brandman Centers for Senior Care (BCSC), the Home's Program of All-inclusive Care for Elderly (PACE).  PACE is an innovative Medicare/Medi-Cal program that delivers nursing home level-of-care services to seniors while they remain living in their homes or apartments. 

The generosity of Joyce and Saul (of blessed memory) Brandman has made BCSC possible. The just-opened PACE Center is on the Jewish Home's Grancell Village Campus at 7150 Tampa Blvd, Reseda, Calif. 91335. BCSC expects to open additional centers in other neighborhoods to meet growing need.

Under federal guidelines, PACE serves seniors who meet the following criteria: age 55 or older, live in a PACE service area and want to remain living in their community, are eligible for a nursing home level-of-care as determined by the State's Department of Health Care Services Long-Term Care Division, and are able to live safely at home. 

The BCSC PACE offers seniors a wide array of services. Included are: primary medical care,  medical specialty services, vision, dental, hearing, foot care, prescription drugs, laboratory and diagnostic services, medical supplies and equipment, nursing and preventive healthcare, physical, occupational, and speech therapy, and transportation to and from the center and for medical appointments.  BCSC/PACE nutritional services range from meal planning for special diets to meals while at the center, and meals delivered to the senior's home if needed. BCSC/PACE also covers ambulance services, hospital care, home healthcare and more—even a nursing home stay when necessary.

Founded in 1912, the Los Angeles Jewish Home is the largest single-source provider of senior housing in Los Angeles. In addition to BCSC, the Home offers a continuum of services. Each year, more than 1,000 women and men are cared for in-residence on two village campuses in Reseda. On the campuses are independent living accommodations, residential care, skilled nursing care, short-term rehabilitative care, acute psychiatric care, and Alzheimer's disease and dementia care. Another 1,600 seniors benefit from the Home's community-based programs.  BCSC complements the highly regarded Skirball Hospice, Jewish Home Center for Palliative Medicine and community clinics. A nonprofit organization, the Home recently announced plans to build the Gonda Healthy Aging Westside Campus in Playa Vista, Calif.
