Jul 15, 2014, 15:00 ET from Louis Royer

NEW YORK, July 15, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Louis Royer, an iconic Cognac house dating to 1853 and led by the fifth generation of its founding family, today announces the third annual "Show Me the Proof!" High Proof Cognac Cocktail Competition for professional bartenders and mixologists.  The competition is being hosted by Hanna Lee Communications, Inc., an award-winning agency specialized in spirits, food, wine, and lifestyle PR and social media marketing.  It celebrates Louis Royer "Force 53" VSOP Fine Champagne Cognac, one of the highest proof Cognacs on the U.S. market that is a focal point of the overproof cocktail trend.

The cocktail development guidelines and submission forms are listed on www.shakestir.com/louisroyer.  Recipes may be submitted from July 15 through October 15, 2014.  The final competition will take place in mid-November 2014 in New York City.

The competition's Grand Prize includes a one-week, educational trip to France to visit Louis Royer Cognac's cellars in Jarnac, as well as two nights in Paris to enjoy the sophisticated city's take on cocktail culture.  Second and third place winners will each win a cash prize of $1,000.

"We are very proud to hold this cocktail competition for the third year to celebrate our incomparable 'Force 53,'" says Nicolas Royer, newly named U.S. Brand Ambassador, Louis Royer Cognac, who is a sixth-generation family member.  "These competitions, along with all of our concerted public relations and marketing efforts, have made 'Force 53' our portfolio's shining star in the U.S.  We will continue to leverage the overproof Cognac trend that we helped to create and reinforce our relationships with the bartending community that is making 'Force 53' such a success."

A total of six finalists will compete in New York City and demonstrate their cocktails before a distinguished judging panel:

  • Paul Pacult - Noted spirits critic and publisher/editor of The Spirit Journal
  • Dale DeGroff - Legendary mixologist and founder of the Museum of the American Cocktail
  • Steve Olson - Founder of aka wine geek and renowned spirits, wine and cocktail expert
  • Jack Robertiello - Widely-respected spirits and cocktail writer
  • Jerome Royer - Louis Royer Cognac's Master Selector and a fifth-generation family member

Honorary guest judges will include Pamela Wiznitzer (The Dead Rabbit) and Sother Teague (Amor y Amargo), who tied for the Grand Prize at last year's cocktail competition.

"Louis Royer Cognac has created a lot of excitement in the Cognac category with its groundbreaking 'Force 53' expression," says Pacult.  "Prior to 'Force 53,' Cognac was on the sidelines of the cocktail renaissance and today it is front and center.  The bartending community has embraced this overproof spirit that stands up to any cocktail ingredient, thereby opening up a world of possibilities for Cognac libations.  We saw great creativity demonstrated in the first two competitions and can't wait to see this year's entries."

The competition's partner is ShakeStir.com, a leading online community for bartenders and mixologists.
