LSI® TrueStore® Storage IC Technologies Enable One Terabyte Per Platter Hard Disk Drives

MILPITAS, Calif., Sept. 8, 2011 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- LSI Corporation (NYSE: LSI) today announced that its TrueStore hard disk drive (HDD) storage ICs are integrated into the industry's recently announced 3.5-inch hard drives featuring one terabyte of storage capacity per disk platter, the new capacity benchmark for a single disk.

The new 1TB/platter 3.5-inch desktop drives incorporate LSI TrueStore system-on-chip (SoC) solutions, including 40nm read channels featuring second-generation low-density parity check (LDPC) iterative decoding technology. The new 1TB/platter drives also integrate high-performance, low-power LSI TrueStore preamplifiers, creating a complete data path solution from a single supplier.

The LSI storage ICs also feature new innovations in flying height sensing and control that help HDD manufacturers lower head fly heights for increased bit density, drive performance and reliability.
