Introduces New Format and Design to Bring Help and Hope to the Lupus Community
WASHINGTON, Dec. 17, 2013 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Lupus Foundation of America celebrates the 10th anniversary of its national magazine, Lupus Now®, the only national publication devoted to addressing the complexities of living with lupus, an unpredictable and misunderstood autoimmune disease that ravages different parts of the body. The 10th anniversary issue introduces a new format with more concise reporting on advances in lupus research and treatment, wellness features, clinical updates, and inspiring personal stories.
This issue also introduces a fresh new look that is in step with the Lupus Foundation of America's new brand campaign. Featured in the 10th anniversary issue are: "Sisterly Love," about sisters bonding through shared challenges and experiences of a lupus diagnosis; "Teen Talk," about young adults with lupus learning to balance schoolwork, activities, family, friends, and their health; and "Lupus in 2025," in which lupus experts predict the future in the areas of research, patient care, treatments, and overall quality of life.
"Lupus is a cruel mystery, a scary disease that is expressed differently from person to person; people with lupus often may feel isolated and alone," said Jenny Thorn Palter, Lupus Now editor. "Lupus Now speaks to the many voices of the lupus community with the latest news, as well as practical tips on how to better cope with the physical and emotional impact of the disease. We try to provide a positive approach to dealing with difficult subjects and spotlight individuals who are accomplishing great things in spite of their disease." Palter, who has been the editor since the magazine's inception, is living with lupus and is devoted the magazine's goal of providing expert information in a caring and supportive style.
"Lupus Now is the authoritative centerpiece of our lupus education commitment to get answers to all people affected by lupus," said Sandra C. Raymond, President and CEO, the Lupus Foundation of America. "After a decade of success with Lupus Now magazine, we are joining forces with BMJ to publish Lupus Science Medicine™, the first open access, centralized lupus science information source. Together, these two publications will connect the entire lupus community."
Lupus Now is published three times per year and is available by subscription or through one of the Lupus Foundation of America's national network of local chapters. More information is available online at lupus.org/magazine.
Lupus is an unpredictable and misunderstood autoimmune disease that ravages different parts of the body. It is difficult to diagnose, hard to live with, and a challenge to treat. Lupus is a cruel mystery because it is hidden from view and undefined, has a range of symptoms, strikes without warning, and has no known cause and no known cure. Its health effects can range from a skin rash to a heart attack. Lupus is debilitating and destructive and can be fatal, yet research on lupus has not kept pace with research for other diseases of similar scope and devastation.
