SANTA MONICA, Calif., Feb. 12, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Macerich (NYSE: MAC) announced today that Century 21 Department Store will open an approximately 70,000-square-foot, two-level store at Green Acres Mall in Valley Stream, NY, on the South Shore of Long Island. The location will be the tenth department store operated by this highly successful chain.
The new Century 21 Department Store at Green Acres Mall is set to open in fall 2015 and will serve as an anchor for the Sunrise Highway portion of the center. Macerich acquired the 1.8-million-square-foot Green Acres Mall in January 2013 and has since been actively elevating the merchandise mix and shopper experience including the addition of a recently opened Flagship store for H&M. The center is ideally situated in a densely populated area that includes Nassau County's famed Five Towns. The addition of Century 21 will further expand the center's appeal for this affluent trade area.
"The strategic addition of Century 21 to Green Acres Mall is a game-changer for this property and a win for this iconic retailer," said Ed Coppola, President, Macerich. "Century 21, a New York-based retailer with a handful of very high volume locations, will draw highly sophisticated, brand-focused shoppers from the Five Towns and from an expanded Green Acres trade area. Our vision for this property centers on increasing its appeal for nearby, upscale suburban shoppers while deepening the allure for savvy urban shoppers – and adding Century 21 is a key step toward this future. We are very pleased they share our vision of the future potential of the property."
"We are thrilled to further our strategic expansion with a new store in the Green Acres Mall this coming fall. The core of our business has always been to deliver value to our customers to live better, and making the unattainable, attainable through our longstanding relationships with luxury brands. The Green Acres Mall is an ideal location for us that will expose us to both an urban and suburban luxury-seeking shopper," stated Raymond Gindi, CEO, Century 21 Department Store.
The Green Acres Mall location will be the second store for Century 21 within the Macerich portfolio. Newly opened and expanded retailers at Green Acres Mall include H&M, which nearly doubled the size of its previous store to 22,000 square feet, Panera Bread, Chipotle, Haagen-Dazs, Justice and Journeys Kidz. Green Acres Mall is home to Macy's, Sears, JCPenney, Kohl's and dozens of popular specialty stores and restaurants including American Eagle, Victoria's Secret, Express, Forever 21, The Children's Place, Old Navy, Applebee's, Olive Garden and much more.
