Maen Hussein, MD Meets With King Abdullah II Ahead of UN General Assembly to Strengthen U.S.-Jordan Medical Ties

FORT MYERS, Fla., Sept. 24, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- Maen Hussein, MD, medical oncologist/hematologist and director of value-based care for Florida Cancer Specialists & Research Institute, LLC (FCS), joined with members of the Jordanian American Physicians Association (JAPA) in a meeting with His Majesty King Abdullah II of Jordan, held prior to the United Nations General Assembly in New York City. Dr. Hussein serves as JAPA president. This marked the second meeting held with his majesty aiming to strengthen ties with Jordanian medical professionals working in the U.S.

According to Dr. Hussein, "Our dialogue reaffirmed the association's mission, which is to foster collaboration between Jordanian medical professionals in the U.S. and their counterparts in Jordan, supporting the development of healthcare and mentoring the next generation of doctors."

HM King Abdullah II praised the achievements of Jordanian doctors in the U.S., noting their role in enhancing Jordan's standing in the medical field and in serving communities both at home and abroad. He highlighted the importance of maintaining cooperation and sharing expertise to support Jordan's healthcare sector and advance its modernization agenda. Discussions also covered challenges facing Jordanian physicians overseas, alongside opportunities for future collaboration to further develop Jordan's healthcare system.

Dr. Hussein has been involved with the association since it began in 2014 as an online group of physicians seeking to connect and support medical students and healthcare needs in their home country. The non-profit has marked a number of achievements that include: 

• Delivering $250,000 worth of protective gear and high-flow oxygen devices to Ministry of Health and university hospitals during the COVID-19 pandemic.
• Offering hundreds of interest-free student loans and arranging clinical training placements for Jordanian students in the U.S. through sustainable projects worth several hundred thousand dinars.
• Coordinating medical missions to Gaza in a number of rare specialties despite difficult circumstances.
• Raising more than $600,000 for the King Hussein Cancer Foundation to support treatment for children with cancer from Gaza.
• Organizing annual conferences and workshops in Jordan and the U.S. to promote medical education and international collaboration.
• Establishing endowment funds to support patients and building a global membership network for physicians and students.

In his leadership role for the FCS statewide practice. Dr. Hussein oversees the ongoing development of value-based care initiatives to continuously improve patient outcomes while managing costs effectively. Dr. Hussein joined FCS in 2011 and provides oncology care to patients at the FCS Villages Cancer Center and FCS Brownwood location.

An active cancer researcher and advocate for the vital importance of clinical trials, Dr. Hussein has served as principal investigator on numerous clinical trials with a focus on lung cancer. His work has been published and presented in prestigious industry publications and symposiums. Dr. Hussein also serves as president of the Florida Society of Clinical Oncology (FLASCO) board of directors. Additionally, he is member of the board of directors and immediate past chair of the FCS Foundation.
