MagLev Aero Secures Dual DARPA Contracts to Advance Next-Generation U.S. Drone Propulsion

Concurrent DARPA awards provide non-dilutive funding to accelerate MagLev Aero's path to TRL-6 flight readiness, de-risking dual-use commercialization and advancing U.S.-manufactured propulsion for American "Drone Dominance" initiatives.

As defense drones undergo a rapid performance escalation on the modern battlefield, there remains a critical, unmet need for advanced propulsion systems capable of establishing true drone air dominance. Addressing this challenge, MagLev Aero, a pioneer in advanced aerospace propulsion technology, today announced it has been selected by the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) for concurrent awards under the Minimum Viable Product (MVP) and Embedded Entrepreneur Initiative (EEI) programs.

MagLev Aero has created a breakthrough in propulsion technology that provides more thrust for less power, fundamentally changing the physics of flight. This highly efficient architecture directly enables higher speeds, longer operational ranges, increased payload capacities, and a dramatically reduced noise signature—all the key domains required for drones that must evade detection and capture, counter-drones designed to catch and kill hostile threats, and cargo drones for contested logistics.

Supported by this non-dilutive government funding and an accelerating defense-market demand signal, MagLev Aero is advancing the industrialization of its next-generation propulsion platform. The platform is purpose-built to meet the surging demand for high-performance, U.S.-manufactured drone propulsion, aligning directly with White House "Drone Dominance" priorities, and the rapidly expanding commercial advanced air mobility (AAM) market. DARPA funding will support rapid advancement from prototype to flight-tested production, significantly reducing technical and integration risks for dual-use commercialization.

DARPA MVP - Accelerating Flight Readiness for Airframers
DARPA's MVP support helps technology developers quickly prototype, test, and adapt breakthroughs. MagLev Aero is funded to build and test a full-scale, flight-relevant propulsion demonstration platform, culminating in a Technology Readiness Level 6 (TRL-6) demonstration in a relevant operational environment. This effort significantly de-risks adoption for airframers and OEMs developing the next generation of autonomous drones and crewed aircraft by demonstrating:

• Flight-Relevant Integration Readiness: Achieving TRL-6 will validate the system's aerodynamic performance, stability, and reliability. This provides aerospace manufacturers with a highly efficient, drop-in propulsion architecture that reduces OEM R&D and fielding timelines.
• Leap-Ahead Platform Capabilities: MagLev Aero's technology is designed to unlock step-change improvements in payload capacity, acoustic signature reduction, operational range, and aircraft efficiency—serving as key competitive differentiators for OEMs competing for both future defense and commercial fleet programs.

DARPA EEI - Scaling U.S. Industrialization & Commercialization
Simultaneously, the DARPA EEI Program accelerates MagLev Aero's defense commercialization, go-to-market execution, and U.S. industrialization strategy. The award funds the embedding of an experienced business leader to help navigate federal acquisition frameworks and capture strategic transition opportunities.

• Capitalizing on "Drone Dominance" Priorities: This executive leadership will strategically position MagLev Aero's capabilities for program capture, large-scale, urgent government procurement efforts across government agencies and armed forces including Air Force, Navy, NASA, AFWERX, U.S. Special Operations Command (USSOCOM), and the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL).
• Strengthening Domestic Manufacturing: Driven by the strategic imperative for secure, domestic supply chains, MagLev Aero plans to industrialize a robust, "Made in the U.S." manufacturing and supplier base for industrializing next-generation drone propulsion.
