Each New Year, New You Scholarship will be applied at the rate of $500 per six-month term, renewable for up to four terms. Students enrolling in any of WGU Texas' 60 bachelor's and master's degree programs are eligible to apply for the scholarship. Applications are being accepted now through March 31, 2018.

2017 WGU Texas graduate Toni Marek wanted to earn her master's degree, but didn't want to be saddled by student loans and debt. She also wanted to earn her degree from an accredited online school that would fit into her busy schedule and lifestyle. Marek researched several schools and discovered WGU Texas. "Money isn't a reason to forego college. There are scholarships and grants everywhere—if you put in the time and effort and work for them," she said.

Marek applied and was awarded a scholarship from WGU Texas, where she completed her M.S. in Management and Leadership. "Thanks to my mentor's encouragement and my master's degree, I now work as a patient experience manager at a major health care system. It is by far the most fulfilling and rewarding job I have ever had," said Marek.

Designed to meet the needs of adult learners, WGU Texas' innovative competency-based education allows students to take advantage of their knowledge and experience to move quickly through material they already know so they can focus on what they still need to learn. WGU Texas faculty members work one-on-one with students as mentors, offering guidance, support, and individualized instruction. While WGU Texas' degree programs are rigorous and challenging, competency-based learning makes it possible for students to accelerate their progress, saving both time and money.

This scholarship is open to new students who have been officially admitted to WGU Texas. While multiple scholarships will be awarded, this is a competitive program, and scholarships will be awarded based on a candidate's academic record, readiness for online study, and current competency, as well as other considerations.
