TSX/NYSE/PSE: MFC | SEHK:945 |
TORONTO, June 14, 2012 /PRNewswire/ - Manulife Financial today announced that Craig Bromley will be appointed Senior Executive Vice President and General Manager, U.S. Division, and President of John Hancock Financial Services, effective September 1, 2012. Mr. Bromley will report directly to Manulife President and Chief Executive Officer Donald A. Guloien and he will join the company's Executive Committee.
Mr. Bromley is currently leading Manulife's business in Japan - the world's second largest insurance market - as the Executive Vice President and General Manager of Manulife Japan, as well as its President and Chief Executive Officer. Earlier in his career, Mr. Bromley led Manulife's merger with John Hancock Financial Services, Inc. in 2004.
"Craig brings to the John Hancock team a track record of success, international experience, and an inclusive and decisive leadership style," Mr. Guloien said.
"As the leader of one of our largest businesses, Craig has proven to be a strategic business builder," Mr. Guloien added. "His accomplishments include expanding Manulife Japan's product offerings and distribution channels to create an important competitor in the marketplace."
Mr. Bromley takes over from Jim Boyle, who, after more than 20 years at Manulife will be retiring. Mr. Boyle will remain at John Hancock through the end of the fiscal year in order to facilitate a smooth transition.
"I want to thank Jim for his considerable service to John Hancock, our customers and our employees," Mr. Guloien added. "During a career of many highlights, I want to single out Jim's leadership of the past few years when he led the repositioning of John Hancock's businesses. We will continue to see the benefits of his efforts for years to come."
Under Mr. Bromley's leadership of the past five years, Manulife has built a solid business base in Japan and achieved substantial growth in the second largest insurance market in the world. During the crisis of the tragic events of the 2011 earthquake and tsunami, Mr. Bromley led the company capably and admirably and ensured Manulife was a beacon of support for employees, customers and the community.
Manulife has begun a global search of internal and external candidates to head its Japanese operations.
Mr. Bromley first moved to Japan in 2005 as CFO of Manulife Japan. Prior to his time in Japan, Mr. Bromley served as Senior Vice President, Business Development and Investor Relations of Manulife Financial. Mr. Bromley joined Manulife in 2000 in Toronto, with previous experience in banking and management consulting. Mr. Bromley holds a Masters of Business Administration.
