Marathon Bombing Victims Get a Lift at Home from Acorn Stairlifts
BOSTON, May 20, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Today Acorn Stairlifts announced that it is honored to have installed stairlifts at no cost at the home of Paul and JP Norden, brothers seriously injured in the Boston Marathon bombings. Paul Norden, 31, and JP, 33, each lost a leg in the attacks and both suffered many other injuries. As they have battled through surgeries and a painful recovery, the story of these two remarkable brothers and their friends, several of whom were also severely injured that day, is one of great strength, loyalty, love of family and community support.
The Norden brothers' journey of recovery and healing is progressing from the hospital to a rehabilitation facility and eventually to life at home. Earlier this month, as their family prepared for the brothers' homecoming, State Senator Katherine Clark, who has been working with the family, reached out to Acorn Stairlifts to seek out home modification alternatives for the brothers and their family, who reside in a multi-story home.
Acorn Stairlifts, the world-leader in stairlifts, has installed over 300,000 stairlifts in its 20 years of operation. Deeply moved by the Norden's situation, the company immediately dispatched a local representative to the Norden residence to measure the home for two custom-made stairlifts. Within two days, the units were installed in the Norden home. The company was honored to install both stairlifts at no cost to the Norden family.
Paul Norden returned home on Thursday, May 16, 2013. Liz Norden, mother of the Paul and JP, said, "Not knowing how Paul would be able to get up and down the stairs was very upsetting to me. To have Acorn send someone – driving through the night – to get the first unit installed before Paul's arrival has left us speechless. It is simply amazing, and we will be forever grateful."
On behalf of all Acorn employees, Tim McCool, Director of Sales at Acorn Stairlifts said, "We all heard about the Norden brothers' story and were just thrilled to help in any way we could. We're in the business of helping people and it's moments like these that really lift the spirits of the entire company. There was no doubt in my mind what we were going to do."
Senator Katherine Clark thanked the company on behalf of the community, saying, "We offer our sincere thanks to the leadership and employees of Acorn Stairlifts for your swift, generous and compassionate response to the Norden family. I remain inspired by the many actions of neighbors, organizations, government, and the private sector, coming together in support of those so tragically affected by the marathon bombings."
