March of Dimes To Honor Olympian Allyson Felix At Get S.E.T. Los Angeles

LOS ANGELES, June 5, 2019 /PRNewswire/ -- Six-time Olympic gold medalist Allyson Felix, will be honored during the inaugural Get S.E.T. Los Angeles event on Thursday, June 27^th. The event will benefit March of Dimes, the non-profit leader in the fight for the health of all moms and babies. Allyson will be one of five honorees being celebrated for their outstanding achievements and contributions in the sports, entertainment and technology fields, which also includes Marcellus Wiley, cohost of FOX Sports 1 and former NFL player, Kevin LeGrett, President, West Division iHeartmedia, Don Olender, technology disruptor and Executive Director of Innovate@UCLA and Rajan Mehta, Executive Vice President, Chief Product & Technology Officer of the WWE. CBS2's Jim Hill, former NFL player and one of the nation's most respected sports anchors, will emcee this incredible evening to be held at The NOVO at L.A. Live for the unique and immerse event.

In California, as in many other states, maternal and infant health disparities between the African American community and other communities are significant. The preterm birth rate for black women in the state is 44 percent higher than the rate among all other women and 55 percent higher than white women.  Women of color are most at risk of facing pregnancy complications, and black women are more than three times as likely as white women to die from pregnancy-related causes. And many women don't know they are at risk.

"Being a knowledgeable, world-class athlete didn't protect me from the odds.  I'd been doing everything right throughout my whole pregnancy, but still, when I was 32 weeks into my pregnancy, my blood pressure became way too high and the baby's heart rate was decelerating and I had to deliver via emergency C-section. Thankfully I had all the right resources, but I know not everyone does. March of Dimes supports moms through every stage of the pregnancy journey, even when everything doesn't go according to plan."
