Markell Praises Much-Needed Jobs Bill
WASHINGTON, March 18 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Gov. Jack Markell, chair of the Democratic Governors Association, issued the following statement after President Obama signed the bipartisan HIRE Act.
"Today reminds us that we can come together across party lines to put Americans back to work in every state, regardless of politics. This important step forward will strengthen the private sector, encourage small businesses to hire new employees with tax credits and rebuild infrastructure in all 50 states.
This would not be possible without the bold and active leadership of the President and our Congressional leadership. I also want to thank Congressional Republicans who put aside political affiliation and voted for this measure.
Time and again, Republican governors are declaring that they will campaign on what happens in Washington, not in their states. Given their preoccupation with what happens in DC, I challenge my Republican colleagues to join us in celebrating this common sense bipartisan measure. I expect they'll be just as eager to support a bipartisan bill that creates and save jobs as they are zealous about criticizing measures they oppose.
Getting Americans back to work is the most important job for all of us, and I urge all parties to support common sense efforts that will restore our prosperity."
