17,000-Member Union Backs City Council Speaker for Mayor

NEW YORK, Feb. 14, 2013 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Mason Tenders District Council Political Action Committee (MTDCPAC), the political arm of the 17,000-member Mason Tenders District Council (MTDC), announced today its endorsement of City Council Speaker Christine Quinn for Mayor.

The MTDC is the umbrella organization for five affiliated local unions of the Laborers' International Union of North America. Affiliated unions include:  Asbestos, Lead & Hazardous Waste Laborers' Local 78; Construction & General Building Laborers' Local 79; General Building Laborers' Local 66; Waste Recycling & General Industrial Laborers' Local 108, and; Lay Faculty Association Local 1261.

The MTDCPAC is one of the most politically aggressive labor/political organizations in New York. While normally operating below the public radar, the MTDCPAC is very well known to the elected officials of New York State and City. With a history of bipartisan support for elected officials who support the issues of importance to its members, as well as playing a pivotal role as a founding member of the WFP, the MTDCPAC covers all facets of the political spectrum.
