MassMutual Names Dominic Blue Senior Vice President And Deputy General Counsel
SPRINGFIELD, Mass., June 11, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance Company (MassMutual) has appointed Dominic Blue, Senior Vice President and Deputy General Counsel, effective immediately. Blue, based at MassMutual's Springfield headquarters, reports to Mark Roellig, Executive Vice President and General Counsel.

Blue, who joined MassMutual in 2011 as Vice President and Assistant General Counsel, leads the corporate law, insurance risk management and real estate services teams, and has responsibility for all MassMutual legal matters relating to mergers and acquisitions, corporate finance, investments, intellectual property, information technology, contracts, employment, and privacy and data security.
Among his contributions to MassMutual include working with MassMutual senior leadership in the design, development and successful launch of MassMutual Ventures, MassMutual's $100 million corporate venture arm that invests in potential disruptive technologies. Additionally, Blue and his team have advanced MassMutual's patent program, increasing MassMutual's patent applications significantly under his leadership.
Underscoring Blue's leadership and legal acumen, he is the former President of the Massachusetts Black Lawyers Association and, in 2014, he was recognized by the Executive Leadership Council, a national organization comprised of current and former African-American CEOs and senior executives at Fortune 500 companies. In addition, he was recently selected as one of the 2015 Most Influential Black Lawyers by Savoy Magazine.
Blue serves on the board of the Massachusetts Department of Transportation, where he was originally appointed in 2013 by former Governor Deval Patrick and re-appointed in 2015 by Governor Charlie Baker. He also serves on the board of the Greater Springfield YMCA.
Prior to joining MassMutual, from 2005 to 2011, Blue was an attorney at the firm Edwards, Angell, Palmer & Dodge, LLP (now Locke Lord Edwards LLP) and at Testa Hurwitz & Thibeault LLP, where he began his career in 2002.
Blue received his bachelor's degree from the College of Holy Cross. He earned his Juris Doctor from Boston College Law School and earned his MBA from the Carroll School of Management at Boston College. Blue is an attorney admitted to practice in both Connecticut and Massachusetts.
