Matt Sheridan and Sheridan Landscaping Recognize Excellence, Provide Scholarships to Plymouth South Students

PLYMOUTH, Mass., Nov. 5, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Sheridan Landscaping — a hardscape, landscape and grounds maintenance company in Plymouth, Massachusetts — recently awarded scholarships to students at Plymouth South High School, or PSHS. The initiative was spearheaded by owner of Sheridan Landscaping, Matt Sheridan, who himself is a graduate of Plymouth South High School.

"This was my school," said Sheridan. "It was a big part of my life growing up, so I thought it was only right to give back."

The scholarships will help students pay for tuition, textbooks, and other expenses as they pursue their higher education goals. Sheridan made a point of awarding the scholarships to students who displayed academic and extracurricular excellence but were otherwise left out of other scholarships and financial awards.

"While it's wonderful that top-performing students get scholarships and awards, often, the fringe students who also work hard don't get anything," Sheridan said. "It's important to always recognize the student who does the right thing. This year, two young ladies received our scholarships — they were perfect candidates, and they sent us very nice letters as thanks."

Sheridan presented a scholarship personally, but he also presented one on behalf of his company. This is the first year Matt Sheridan and Sheridan Landscaping have done a scholarship program, but it's the culmination of many years of introspection and consideration.

"As I've gotten older, I've started to realize how important it is for people to help others when they have the means to do so." Sheridan said. "I'm very fortunate, so I want to start helping other people around me, especially young people."

Sheridan says he and his hardscape and landscape company plan on expanding their scholarship program and he's excited to offer more opportunities to young people in the Plymouth area.

"I definitely plan to do more scholarships," Sheridan said. "I was an avid wrestler, for example, so I want to present a scholarship to students engaged in that sport. Plymouth South also has a vocational program — I've always felt that vocational students are underserved, so I'd also like to present a scholarship to students interested in the trades, even if it's just to help them buy tools when they start their careers."
