MAVI Launches AI-Driven Alternative to Traditional Finance Staffing, as Highly Skilled Finance Talent Grows More Scarce

MAVI's customers can onboard vetted global finance and accounting professionals in as few as five days and cut talent costs by 50% or more, compared with equivalent U.S.-based roles.

SAN FRANCISCO, Sept. 28, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- MAVI today announced its launch as an AI-driven modern finance talent engine that connects U.S. companies with a network of over 3,000 pre-vetted, AI-proficient finance and accounting professionals from over 20 countries. The company also manages onboarding, compliance and payments once a match is made.

According to MAVI's internal cost comparisons, its global talent model cuts annual costs by 50% or more, compared with hiring professionals for equivalent U.S.-based roles, inclusive of MAVI's fees and professional compensation and without traditional staffing-agency placement fees.

Finance teams are contending with a tight labor market. Unemployment rates across business and financial operations occupations hovered at around 2.7% in 2025, compared with 4.3% across the total workforce, according to data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Sixty-one percent of finance leaders surveyed by the Controllers Council reported a talent shortage in 2026, up from 46% in its 2025 survey.

Companies are also finding it increasingly difficult to recruit experienced finance and accounting professionals. In the Controllers Council's 2026 survey, 44% of respondents identified controller or assistant controller roles as the hardest positions to fill, followed by accounting and bookkeeping roles at 34%. The report linked compensation growth to talent shortages and competition for skilled professionals. It concluded that the talent shortage is concentrated in positions that require leadership, technical expertise and specialized skills.

Meanwhile, AI has raised the bar for finance professionals instead of eliminating the need for them. BLS expects automation to make accountants' analytical and advisory responsibilities more important. Ninety-three percent of large companies surveyed by Deloitte in 2026 stated they use AI across multiple functions and operations, but only 43% of CFOs expressed confidence in their AI governance. And none of the financial modeling professionals surveyed by the Financial Modeling Global Leaders Council this year said they are confident in relying on an AI-generated financial model for a high-stakes business decision without an independent human review.

These trends shed light on a deeper talent problem for finance leaders. Management teams are pushing finance leaders to do more with less and contribute more strategically amid flat or shrinking headcount budgets, while the experienced professionals required to govern AI-generated work remain difficult to hire.
