According to the Skin Cancer Foundation, 1 in 5 Americans will develop skin cancer by age 70, and more than two people die of skin cancer every hour. Raising awareness about prevention and early detection is more critical than ever. Yet many people don't know where to start.

Squamous Cell Carcinoma is the second most common type of skin cancer. It is fairly slow growing skin cancer. Unlike other types of skin cancer, it can spread to the tissues, bones, and nearby lymph nodes, where it may become harder to treat.

This is the most common type of skin cancer. Basal Cell Carcinoma (BCC) are often found on areas of the skin that are exposed to the sun, such as your head and neck, but can be found on other areas of the body.

The ABCDEs are also used as a general criteria for finding other atypical moles. A | ASYMMETRY One half does not match the other; B | BORDER The edges are irregular, notched, or blurred; C | COLOR The mole has more than one color; D | DIAMETER The mole is larger than an eraser (6mm) across; E | EVOLVING There are changes in shape, size, and color.

Survival rates are improving, thanks to earlier detection and advances in treatment. The five-year survival rate for melanoma is 99% when the cancer is localized and caught early.
Common risk factors for skin cancer include multiple sunburns, tanning bed usage (just one session before age 35 increases melanoma risk by 75%), weakened immune systems, or a personal history of skin cancer.
Prevention strategies include applying broad-spectrum SPF 30+ sunscreen, wearing UPF-protective clothing and UV-blocking sunglasses, avoiding tanning beds, staying in the shade during peak UV hours, and performing regular skin checks.

It's not just about facts; it's also about action.
