MCCI Moves to Downtown Detroit Office
Mort Crim Communications, Inc. redesigns century-old location
DETROIT, June 16, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Full-service integrated marketing firm MCCI (aka Mort Crim Communications, Inc.) has officially opened its new design-innovative downtown Detroit headquarters. It features iconic furnishings, art pieces and reconstructed materials.
The office is located in Suite 501 of the historic Murphy-Telegraph Building at 155 W. Congress, the former home to Western Union about a century ago. MCCI's new home sports highly creative collaborative working space, high-tech features such as multimedia studios and two-way video conferencing, a stunning board room and a naturally-lit optimistic working environment.
The office is filled with features that reflect the company's Southeast Michigan roots, including:
- Re-planed wood flooring from Reclaim Detroit that came from reconstructed Detroit materials;
- Artwork from University of Michigan design and architecture entrepreneur Anya Sirota;
- A custom walnut board room conference table designed and created by Detroit's Ali Sandifer Studio; and
- A table in our kitchen area was custom-created by Alan Kaniarz of A.K. Services.
"We made the decision to move to Detroit not only because of our need for more creative and digital technology space, but also because we were looking to be in a historic building in a walking community," said MCCI President and CEO Terry Oprea. "The Detroit Economic Growth Corporation educated us about the downtown possibilities – and the Gatzaros family, owners of 400 Monroe Associates who own the building, truly wanted our particular creative services firm to be their partner. They did a terrific job constructing our office."
The office was designed and created by the Detroit-based husband and wife duo Joel Schmidt and Elizabeth Skrisson, founders of D MET design.
"MCCI as a client is really trusting, collaborative and liberating," Schmidt and Skrisson said. "We always feel the ideal client is really passionate about what they do and see the potential for how a space can enhance that work. MCCI's space reflects its personality – a classic modern style – balanced with visionary ideas. In the design, we reflected elements of a classic media company with a forward-thinking studio culture."
MCCI will continue to maintain a service office in Southfield, Mich., as well as a multimedia and digital production center in the GM Renaissance Center in Detroit. The firm has leased 14,000 square feet of space of the Murphy-Telegraph Building. A total of 9,000 square feet has been completed and occupied, with an option on an additional 5,000 square feet of adjacent space.
