McClatchy Launches dealsaver™ Daily Deals Sites in all Its Markets

SACRAMENTO, Calif., Sept. 28, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- The McClatchy Company (NYSE: MNI) today announced that it has completed the rollout of dealsaver™, its proprietary daily deals service, to all McClatchy markets, culminating a process that began with the May 18 introduction of www.dealsaver.com/fresno in  Fresno, Calif.

"As expected, we've sold a large number of deal vouchers in our bigger markets," said Christian Hendricks, McClatchy's vice president for interactive media. "We've been pleased to see, however, that even our smaller markets have been able to generate strong volume."

Regardless of market size, advertisers are finding that dealsaver™ combined with the promotional power of the local McClatchy newspaper and related websites bring customers who are willing to buy more than the deal itself and who provide repeat business. This sets dealsaver™ apart from some of the other daily deals competitors.

"The dealsaver™ program helped me to reach a segment of the population I was unable to reach with Groupon or Living Social," said Rick Fansler, manager of Airways Municipal Golf Course in Fresno.

Even as more McClatchy markets have come aboard, earlier dealsaver™ markets are expanding. In Miami, for instance, the local dealsaver™ program will soon be offering multiple deals each day, and McClatchy is planning an online mall in all of its markets to provide a variety of deeply discounted offerings in conjunction with the Find n Save online marketplace.
