Owners of 2013–2018 Nissan Altima vehicles report passenger airbag warning lights that stay on with an adult in the front seat.
ONTARIO, Calif., Oct. 7, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- McCune Law Group has filed a class action lawsuit against Nissan North America in the U.S. District Court, Central District of California, alleging that 2016–2018 Nissan Altima vehicles contain a front passenger occupant sensor that can fail to detect a seated adult. When the sensor doesn't register a passenger, the airbag may not deploy in a crash. The case was filed as Cass et al. v. Nissan North America Inc. et al., Case No.5:26-cv-05613.
What the Complaint Alleges
According to the complaint, the passenger airbag warning light in affected 2013–2018 Altimas stays on and doesn't switch to ON/armed when an adult is in the front passenger seat, or the passenger airbag shows as disabled or OFF even when the seat is occupied. For many owners, the warning light is the only visible sign that something is wrong.
A passenger airbag occupancy sensor that doesn't register a seated adult is a serious safety problem. If the sensor fails to detect a passenger, the airbag may not deploy in a crash, leaving the person in the front seat without protection they're counting on.
Who May Have a Claim
McCune Law Group is seeking to hear from owners who purchased a 2013-2018 Nissan Altima new or certified pre-owned from a Nissan dealer, or leased one with more than 24 months remaining, and who still own the vehicle.
Owners do not need a formal diagnosis to reach out. Owners who have already paid for a repair should still contact the firm, as prior out-of-pocket repair costs may be relevant. The initial case evaluation is free. McCune Law Group works on a contingency basis, and clients pay nothing unless the firm recovers on their behalf.
