McDonald Hopkins law firm awarded the NAACP Civil Rights Champion Award

CLEVELAND, Sept. 27, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) has honored attorney Jeffrey Pollock, a member of McDonald Hopkins law firm, with the Civil Rights Champion Award for his work on a post-desegregation settlement monitoring case against the Dayton City School District Board of Education.

This Civil Rights Champion Award is an award the NAACP provides to firms and attorneys who have provided outstanding pro bono assistance to the organization.  Beth I. Gillin, an associate attorney with McDonald Hopkins, also provided legal assistance to the NAACP.  Pollock, who co-chairs the firm's Pro Bono Committee, has tried numerous corporate and personal injury cases in state and federal courts and has represented businesses in many arbitrations throughout his more than 36 year career.  Gillin is an associate in the Litigation Department and focuses her practice on all aspects of commercial and business litigation.

In 2002, a longstanding desegregation case in Dayton, Ohio, was concluded under a consent settlement agreement. Under the terms of the agreement, the Dayton City School District Board of Education was required to pay certain funds and implement agreed academic strategies. McDonald Hopkins' litigation on behalf of the NAACP related to enforcement of the consent settlement agreement.
