McGladrey Unveils New Brand and Logo in Style - on a 144-Square-Foot, Potentially Record-Breaking, Golf-Themed Cake

MINNEAPOLIS, June 3 /PRNewswire/ -- Today RSM McGladrey Inc. and McGladrey & Pullen, LLP will celebrate the launch of the new "McGladrey" brand by unveiling their new logo on a life-sized 144-square-foot cake weighing approximately 1,100 pounds. The golf-themed cake, resembling a life-sized putting green, was created in partnership with Minneapolis-based grocery retailer Lunds and Byerly's in an attempt at a Guinness World Record.

To further celebrate, the firm has invited eight distinguished guests led by PGA TOUR professional  and Team McGladrey Member Chris DiMarco; RSM McGladrey President and COO C.E. Andrews; McGladrey & Pullen Managing Partner Dave Scudder; Special Olympics Minnesota representatives; and several respected members of the Minneapolis community to attempt ten approximately 20-foot golf chips at the "putting green."

And we're thrilled that we were able to incorporate an opportunity to give back to the community by supporting Special Olympics with funds raised through today's 'ace in cake' attempts – we hope they're ALL successful!"  

For each golf ball that lands on the cake – which is roughly the size of two side-by-side queen-size mattresses – RSM McGladrey and McGladrey & Pullen LLP will donate $250 to Special Olympics Minnesota, and for each "ace in cake" or hole-in-one, the firms will donate $2,500. To potentially increase the donation amount, Chris DiMarco, known for his skills with the wedge, has been asked to take multiple chips for charity.  

"During my PGA TOUR career, I've been lucky enough to ace a hole a few times, but I'm excited about participating in today's event because I'm confident that none of my PGA TOUR peers have ever scored a hole-in-one in a cake," said DiMarco. "Today's event combines four things I'm fond of, namely: golf, cake, McGladrey and supporting the amazingly talented athletes at Special Olympics."

The 12' x 12' cake, consisting of approximately 124 pounds of flour, 517 pounds of sugar and 125 dozen eggs, took 10 hours to assemble on site in the lobby of the 801 Nicollet Mall building in downtown Minneapolis.

"The McGladrey golf green is attempting to break a Guinness World Record for the largest cake sculpture. The cake will feature chocolate, vanilla and marble cake along with a variety of icings.  

The cake sports a tasty putting surface, fringe, bunker, water hazard, golf cart, McGladrey logo and, of course, a troublesome gopher. The only items inedible are the regulation hole, pin and flag used for the contest from Minneapolis-based Par Aide Products Co. Both Lunds and Byerly's and Par Aide Products Co. happen to be McGladrey clients.

"We're thrilled to have the opportunity to team up with McGladrey to create this potentially record-breaking cake."

The cake flag sports the new The McGladrey Classic logo, which is the newest PGA TOUR Fall Series event and will take place October 7–10, 2010, at the Seaside Course, Sea Island, Georgia. McGladrey is the title sponsor of the event. All of the event's proceeds will go to the Davis Love III Foundation, which contributes to the well-being and progress of society by supporting both national and community-based programs like Special Olympics that focus on children and their families.
