EAST WINDSOR, N.J., March 27, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- McGraw-Hill Federal Credit Union President and CEO, Shawn Gilfedder, and the credit union's executive leadership descended on Capitol Hill in support of some of the most prevalent issues impacting the credit union industry.
The McGraw-Hill Federal Credit Union contingent met with the offices of Sen. Frank Lautenberg (D-NJ), Congressman Chris Smith (R-NJ-4), and Congressman Frank LoBiondo (R-NJ-2) to support credit unions' increased member business lending, access to supplemental income, and ongoing regulatory issues.
McGraw-Hill Federal Credit Union selected these Congressmen, as part of its advocacy strategy, because they represent a large portion of the credit union's membership base. The meetings occurred during the Credit Union National Association's (CUNA) 2012 Governmental Affairs Conference, comprised of 4,000 credit union executives nationwide.
McGraw-Hill Federal Credit Union focused on the positive impact that an increased business lending cap can have on consumers. They noted an increase could inject $13 billion in loans into the economy and create approximately 140,000 jobs – all with no cost to the taxpayer.
"During challenging economic times, the spirit of credit unions has played an integral role in helping families regain financial wellness," said Gilfedder. "By bringing forth the issues most important to the credit union industry, we're ensuring our members' needs are brought to the desks of some of the most influential leaders in Washington."
