McGregor Foundation Makes Special Grants to Build Housing For Needy Inner-city Seniors
Distributions Top $7.5 million Since 2002
EAST CLEVELAND, Ohio, Feb. 1 /PRNewswire/ -- The McGregor Foundation, in a special round of strategic grants, has distributed $55,000 to Union Miles Community Development Corporation and $49,000 to the Burten, Bell, Carr Community Development Corporation to help build housing for needy inner-city Cleveland seniors.
McGregor also approved a project-related investment of $119,000 to the Famicos Foundation in Cleveland's Glenville neighborhood to help maintain the Amasa Stone House, a former nursing home, while financing is sought for its conversion into a senior housing project.
"There is a critical shortage of housing and basic human services for low-income seniors in Cleveland, and McGregor is committed to addressing those needs," says R. Robertson Hilton, president and chief executive officer of The McGregor Foundation.
The Foundation also approved a grant of $45,000 to the City of Cleveland Department on Aging. It is aimed at helping the City compete for a larger challenge-grant from the National Council on Aging and the Harry and Jeanette Weinberg Foundation of Baltimore to improve the availability of basic services for seniors in low-income neighborhoods. The Cleveland Foundation has made a similar commitment to the city's bid in this nationwide competition involving 25 urban areas.
The latest grants bring the total to more than $7.5 million distributed by McGregor Foundation since it was created in 2002.
The McGregor Foundation is part of the McGregor Group, which also owns and operates The A.M. McGregor Home that provides housing and residential care across the entire continuum of need on McGregor's 32-acre campus in East Cleveland. In addition, the Group recently reopened Overlook House, a 25-bed nursing facility atop Cedar Hill near University Circle.
The McGregor Group traces its roots to 1877 with early support from Standard Oil Company founders.
