McKesson's David Nace, M.D., Named Vice Chair of PCPCC Board of Directors

WASHINGTON, May 16, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Patient-Centered Primary Care Collaborative announced today that David K. Nace, M.D., medical director, McKesson Corporation, has been named as PCPCC's first vice chairman of its board of directors.  The PCPCC is a coalition of more than 700 organizations representing the nation's business leaders, consumers, primary care physicians and other health care stakeholders with a shared goal to advance the patient centered medical home.  

Nace has actively served since 2008 as a founding co-chair of the PCPCC's Center for eHealth Information Adoption and Exchange and has served on the organization's 10-member Board of Directors since 2010. Earlier this year, Nace worked to help establish the PCPCC's Center for Accountable Care. "As the ACO concept advances, the PCPCC's Center for Accountable Care is a voice to ensure that accountable care models are built on the foundation of primary care and place a high value on patient-centered collaborative teamwork," Nace said.

Nace has served as a consultant for the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, the Leonard Davis Institute of Health Economics/Wharton School of Business, and the United Nations Business Council.  He has also served as an advisor to the World Federation on Mental Health, the World Health Organization, and the International Labor Organization on issues ranging from health promotion and wellness to employer policy and health care financing issues, and has been frequently called on as a consultant to members of the Medical Advisory Council of the Occupational Review Committee.

Prior to his role at McKesson, Nace served as a senior vice president and corporate medical director with United Health Group,  vice president and chief medical officer with the Aetna Corporation, and founding principle of Health Strategy Solutions, LLC, a benefits consulting firm serving employers.  He has also held medical directorships in a variety of academic and community health care organizations, as well as a privately owned EAP company.

The PCPCC is organized and financed to provide better outcomes for patients, more efficient payment to physicians and better value, accountability and transparency to purchasers and consumers. Studies of the PCMH model show that it improves patient satisfaction and clinical outcomes. It also lowers health care costs by improving care coordination and communication between primary care physicians and their patients.
