This webinar will present new research findings that quantify the benefits to the consumer in owning and operating a diesel car, pickup truck or SUV, the societal benefits in fuel savings, and the environmental benefits of emissions reductions.

The webinar will also feature a state of play for diesels in the U.S. today, including current and future models, market outlooks, and will also address key factors in the consideration of a diesel including fuel prices and availability of fuel stations.

Since 2005, the U.S. has experienced a renaissance in diesel for passenger cars and light trucks. With the transition to cleaner diesel fuel and new technology engines, and a sharpening focus on future fuel efficiency requirements, diesels are poised to continue to grow in the U.S.

While diesels currently make up a modest three percent of the U.S. passenger vehicle market, some analysts predicts diesels will increase to 7 to 8 percent of the U.S. market by 2020.

As part of National Preparedness Month, we will provide updates on state plans to keep the lights on during severe weather events. Mobile and stationary diesel generators have long provided emergency backup power to critical facilities.

Many states susceptible to severe weather are now requiring or encouraging retail fuel locations to install emergency backup power capabilities to keep motorists along evacuation routes and also allow first responders to refuel in the event of a widespread power outage.

The State of Maryland has been a leader by providing incentives for retail fuel locations to either install the necessary switchgear to accept a mobile generator or install a stationary generator through the Fuel Up Maryland program administered by the Maryland Energy Administration. The state is building on the success of the program by expanding eligibility to emergency shelters including firehouses.

We will have senior administrators with the Maryland Energy Administration speaking about this unique program to make sure retail fuel locations and emergency shelters have emergency backup power to keep motorists on evacuation routes, refuel first responder vehicles and make sure residents needing emergency housing all have electricity.
