Media Advisory: March for Jobs & Justice

WHEN:

11 a.m. - 1 p.m., Monday, January 17, 2011

WHERE:

The National Mall in Washington, D.C.

The March for Jobs and Justice begins at 11 a.m. at the nearly-completed Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial (on the field adjacent to West Basin Drive SW). From there, the march will proceed to the steps of the Lincoln Memorial for a rally in the exact location where Martin Luther King Jr. delivered his famous "I Have a Dream" speech.

WHO:

Sponsored by The Justice Movement (www.justicemovementnow.net)

Speakers include Dr. Paul Zeitz, Executive Director of the Global Peace Action Network and the Global AIDS Alliance, along with several prominent activists, singers and poets. They and others are joining the Justice Movement, a group of everyday Americans of varied backgrounds and political views who are dedicated to galvanizing political action so that our leaders serve the cause of Justice.

WHY:

Our political system is broken and our leaders – dependent on corporate largess – no longer are able to effectively serve the interests of the American people. American exceptionalism must be employed in the cause of justice: for economic security and jobs, for U.S. and global healthcare including an end to HIV/AIDS, for the environment, and for electoral justice, putting an end of political demonization and polarization.
