Secure lights and decorations or fasten electrical wires and extension cords to prevent wind damage or other weather damage to your home.
- Plan your route – If you plan to travel for the holidays, take a few extra steps to lessen the stress of driving with traffic. Inspect your car for potential hazards, fill up your gas tank, get a good night's rest, plan your route and have items in your car in case of an emergency, especially if the weather will be cold and snowy.
- Social safety – If you are leaving your home for an extended period of time over the holidays, do not post your travel or party plans on social media. Social media is an increasingly easy way for burglars to know that homes will be unattended. Homes this time of year are more at risk because of brand new presents lying under the tree that might attract a home intruder. Let a neighbor know that you will be gone so someone can watch your house in your absence.
