Meijer Launches Digital Holiday Contest, Customers Can Win $10,000 Plus a Bonus $10,000 to a Local Food Pantry

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich., Nov. 17, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Adding another digital element to its holiday efforts, Meijer has launched an online holiday contest called "Get Gifted," which will  provide a lucky winner with $10,000 in Meijer gift cards, along with another  $10,000 donated to a local food pantry. The announcement was made today by Kevin Brown, chief marketing officer of the Grand Rapids, Mich.-based retailer.

"This digital experience really shows how Meijer is a one-stop shop for your gift-giving, decorating and entertaining needs," Brown said. "But, it also provides an opportunity to give back to the community, which Meijer has always been known for."

The Get Gifted contest, held now through Dec. 18, offers players a chance to explore a Meijer home through 360-degree videos to get a feel for the hot brands of the season. This is the first time a big box retailer has utilized the interactive 360-degree video technology with a contest.

The Meijer home features three rooms – living, dining and gaming – that showcase Meijer offerings this holiday season. Once a player is in a room, all they need to do is left-click on the video and drag their mouse left and right. The featured items are tagged with a red bow that turns green and animates once a player scrolls over the "hot spot."

Three prizes – one in each room of the digital home – will be awarded daily throughout the contest period. The Get Gifted Grand Prize winner will receive $10,000 in Meijer gift cards, plus an additional $10,000 donation to a local food bank.
