FAIRFIELD, Ala., Nov. 27, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- The Miles Golden Bears football team will be honored for winning the 2018 Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference football championship with a parade and rally on Wednesday, Nov. 28 beginning at 11 a.m.
The parade will come down 59th Street in Fairfield and culminate on the campus of Miles College. The rally will take place at Albert J. Sloan-Alumni Stadium. Among the scheduled attendees are national recording artist and comedian Lil Duval and former University of Alabama National Champion football players Jay Barker and Antonio Langham.
Lil Duval, whose song "Smile (Living My Best Life)" has been featured on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, will serve as the Grand Marshal of the parade. Miles College's renowned marching band – the Purple Marching Machine – will perform during the parade and prior to the rally. Miles College President Dr. George T. French, Jr., Director of Athletics and head football coach Reginald Ruffin and members of the football team will speak during the rally. The Jay Barker Show with Lars Anderson will broadcast from the Miles College campus during the rally.
"Our student-athletes worked extremely hard to win this championship. Our administration, led by our President Dr. French, stayed in our corner, and our fans supported us the entire way," Ruffin said. "This is a great way to honor everyone involved and celebrate our accomplishments."
This is the third SIAC football title for Miles under Ruffin, joining titles in 2011 and 2015. This season, the Golden Bears started 0-5 but won five of their final six games, culminating with a 50-23 win over Albany State to take home the championship.
