VAIL, Ariz., Feb. 12, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- Military Makeover with Montel® along with Official Non-Profit Partner, Purple Heart Homes, announces the launch of its 42nd season, featuring the inspiring story of the Kosto family. This season, set to air on Lifetime TV in May 2025, honors the extraordinary service and sacrifice of veteran Matt Kosto and his family in Vail, AZ, embodying the strength and resilience that characterizes those who serve our nation.
Matt Kosto's journey to the Air Force started in the heart of Northwest Oregon, where he was raised by a family of veterans and inspired by a passionate high school teacher who ignited his love for military service. Just before his senior year of high school, Matt took the leap and enlisted, initially planning for a four-year stint. Little did he know that his dedication would lead to an impressive two-decade-long career, culminating in his retirement as a Master Sergeant specializing in aircraft maintenance and engineering.
Throughout his service, Matt was deployed to numerous countries, including Bahrain, Kuwait, Turkey, and Afghanistan, where he supported critical operations like Southern and Northern Watch and the Global War on Terror. A defining moment in Matt's career was during his deployment to Alaska, where he bravely responded to a C-17 crash, securing the site and providing vital emergency support in the harshest of conditions. His unwavering leadership and service during this crisis truly exemplified his commitment to his nation.
Even after his military service, Matt faced another battle—a motorcycle accident in October 2021 that led to the loss of his right leg below the knee. Despite facing complications from a hematoma and undergoing a second surgery, Matt's unyielding spirit shone through. He adapted to his new reality and continued to serve his country in the Federal Civil Service as an Air Force Engineering and Technical Service Equipment Specialist, supporting aircraft maintenance. Through it all, Matt's wife, Virginia, has been his rock. In 2020, she was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer, shifting the family's focus to her health and recovery. As Virginia completed treatment and regained her strength, the Kosto family was able to find their way back to a sense of normalcy.
