More than 300 guests celebrate two decades of growth as organization approaches 700 players each season
CARY, N.C., Oct. 28, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- The Miracle League of the Triangle raised $400,000 during its 20th Anniversary Gala on Oct. 13, bringing more than 300 guests together at the Angus Barn Pavilion to celebrate two decades of inclusive baseball and the players, families, volunteers and supporters who have helped build the organization.
The gala carried forward the organization's yearlong anniversary theme, "This Is What a Dream Looks Like!" and reflected the growth of a program that began with 106 players at one Cary field in 2006. Today, the Miracle League serves nearly 700 players each season across three Triangle locations, including 22 players who participated in its inaugural season and remain active today.
"Twenty years ago, the Miracle League of the Triangle began with a simple dream: to create a place where children and adults with disabilities could play baseball, build friendships and be celebrated for everything they can do," said Benjy Capps, executive director of the Miracle League of the Triangle. "Seeing more than 300 people come together and raise $400,000 shows how deeply this community believes in that dream. Their generosity will help us welcome more players, support our programs and continue creating moments that families carry with them long after each game ends."
One of the evening's highlights was a celebrity video tribute featuring messages from Cal Ripken Jr., Jaccob Slavin, Lainey Wilson, and many others. The anniversary celebrity video and additional Miracle League videos are available on the organization's YouTube channel.
The league's growth has been supported by more than 3,000 volunteers each season who serve as buddies, coaches and group partners. Despite two decades of expansion, the player registration fee remains the same as it was in 2006, and each player continues to receive a new jersey, hat, trophy, team photo and individual photo every season.
The organization has also distributed nearly 300 new baseball gloves at no cost to players since launching its Get A Glove program in 2022. Miracle League players now range in age from 5 to 72, and four area high schools have established Miracle League Clubs dedicated to supporting the league's players and programs.
