MISS DIG System, Inc. Names Bruce Campbell New Executive Director

AUBURN HILLS, Mich., Dec. 16, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Bruce Campbell has been named the new executive director for MISS DIG System, Inc., Michigan's statewide one-call safety and damage prevention corporation.  

Campbell succeeds outgoing director Kathie Fournier, who is retiring after 38 years with MISS DIG, 21 of those as its executive director. 

Campbell is a civil engineer who possesses over 25 years of management experience within the commercial excavation industry.  Most recently he was president of CONEX, a Flint-based industrial excavation organization with annual sales of over $5 million for 18 years. Prior to that he was president of Northwest Excavating, and had also been a lead project civil engineer for SSOE, both of which were based in Flint. 

No stranger to the MISS DIG organization, Campbell was the first non-stakeholder member appointed to its board of directors, where he served as president for two years.  He was the founding member of the Shiawassee Genesee Lapeer Damage Prevention Association, which provides a forum to communicate with and educate contractors, utilities and municipalities to prevent underground facility damages.

Active in the community, Campbell has also served as the chairman of the Vienna Township Planning Commission; was president of the Flint Breakfast Optimist Club; and is a member of numerous industry and civic-based organizations.

During her tenure Fournier oversaw many firsts for the organization, which was founded in 1970.  MISS DIG was the first statewide one-call center in the United States, and has received more than 18 million underground utility staking requests during this time -- more than any other one-call center.  It was also the first 24-hour one call center and the first to become computerized in the United States.  Fournier was also instrumental in establishing a second call center in Escanaba to assist the Auburn Hills headquarters and call center.  

One toll-free call is all it takes to have MISS DIG notify the more than 1000 participating members to stake their underground utility lines and provide overhead electric line assistance to ensure adequate clearances are maintained.  Homeowner and excavators can call MISS DIG toll-free by dialing 811 24 hours a day, seven days a week.  Michigan law requires a call to MISS DIG before using power tools to dig.
