LEXINGTON, Mo., April 29, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Approximately 1,238 acres of farmland in Missouri's Carroll, Lafayette and Ray counties sold for $3,825,000 at auction on April 23, with Schrader Real Estate and Auction Company managing the sale. An equipment auction the same day added $221,100, for a total of $4,046,100.
"We had a nice crowd, with 33 registered bidders and very active bidding on the land. Things went back and forth between farmers and investors seeking different combinations of the land," said R.D. Schrader, president of the auction company. "During the auction, it seemed that farmers were more active, but in the end, it was investors who ended up with a little over three-fourths of the tillable land."
The land was offered in eight tracts ranging from 32 to 406 acres. One bidder bought two tracts making up a combined 553 acres for $1,570,000, while a second combined two tracts for a total of 392 acres for $1,050,000.
Equipment sold included tractors, planters and sprayers.
Schrader said auctions of land and equipment alike are continuing to get a positive response. "Throughout the advance in farmland prices during the last few years, we've seen a healthy discrimination based on location and quality of soils, but there are still farmers and investors alike who are seeking to accumulate more land. We continue to see competitive bidding for land, and this remains a favorable market in which to sell," said Schrader.
