WASHINGTON, Feb. 22, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Kathy Steinhoff, a middle school math teacher from Columbia, Missouri, took top honors at The NEA Foundation's Salute to Excellence in Education Gala, held the evening of February 11, 2011, at the Great Hall of the National Building Museum in Washington, DC. The annual event pays tribute to the nation's top educators and was attended by nearly 900 leaders from public education, business, philanthropy, and government.
Gary Phoebus, President and CEO of NEA Member Benefits (http://www.NEAMB.com), presented the NEA Member Benefits Award for Teaching Excellence to Steinhoff, who was selected from an initial pool of 31 nominees from NEA state affiliates across the country and a group of five finalists. The award included a $25,000 cash prize.
