Mitchell Titus ("MT") Welcomes Larry Abowitz As New Executive Director- Tax Services

NEW YORK, May 5, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- MT is proud to announce and welcome Larry Abowitz as an Executive Director in the firm's Tax Services practice. Abowitz will be primarily responsible for servicing existing engagements with our tax-exempt organization clients as well as supporting our business development efforts to increase our penetration in the not-for-profit sector. 

Larry joins MT from Ernst & Young and has more than 35 years of experience providing tax services to not-for-profit organizations of all kinds, including many well-known charities, hospitals, colleges and universities. He has advised organizations on matters regarding formation, application for tax-exempt status, reporting and compliance issues, unrelated business income, joint ventures and for-profit subsidiaries, international operations and investments, governance, private inurement and executive compensation, charitable contributions and tax-exempt bonds. He has also worked with many private foundations, advising on self-dealing, grants and minimum distributions, taxable expenditures, jeopardizing investments, excess business holdings and other issues, and has extensive experience in representing tax-exempt organizations before the Internal Revenue Service and state regulatory agencies in examinations, ruling requests and appeals.

Larry has a BA from Stony Brook University (SUNY), an MBA from New York University Stern School of Business, and a JD and LLM (in Taxation) from New York University School of Law.
