MMRF Announces 2018 Endurance Run/Relay to Advance Multiple Myeloma Research to Improve the Lives of Patients
New Journey Towards a Cure event poised to engage the multiple myeloma community while raising critical funds for research
NORWALK, Conn., Aug. 27, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- The Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation (MMRF) today announced the next evolution in one of its signature endurance programs, The Journey Towards a Cure, in support of patients with multiple myeloma. This event previously centered on the efforts of one remarkable patient advocate, Eric Gelber, and his mission to run 200 miles in Central Park, New York City (NYC) over the course of one weekend. This program will now further extend its reach to the entire community, offering a unique opportunity to join the Journey.
Eric has raised over $1,100,000 to support cutting-edge research in the field of multiple myeloma initiated by the MMRF. These funds enable the MMRF to pioneer an innovative precision medicine research model that accelerates important potential new lifesaving treatments for patients with multiple myeloma.
"I've always questioned what is possible and what I am willing to do to support patients with this incurable blood cancer," said Eric Gelber, patient advocate, ultramarathoner and The Journey Towards a Cure creator. "I know by supporting the MMRF, funds will be used to advance their research and ultimately bring a cure to every patient."
The first annual The Journey Towards a Cure 12 Hour Endurance Run/Relay will feature individuals or relay teams running and/or walking as many miles as possible over a 12-hour period on October 6th on Randall's Island Park, NYC.
