Mobile Experts Highlights the Future of Cloud RAN for In-Building Wireless

CAMPBELL, Calif., Oct. 4, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Today, Mobile Experts released a report that filters the foggy terminology used by vendors to describe Cloud RAN solutions, and provides clear technical insights into DAS/Small Cell convergence. The report describes how the convergence will compete with DRS solutions and trends as networks localize and centralize various layers of baseband processing.

According to the report, the impact of CRAN/VRAN can be as much as 30% higher capacity due to improved reception and interference coordination with the outdoor macro network, or using Joint Transmission/Joint Reception indoors. The best approach depends on the building type and the business model followed for the indoor coverage solution.

It's a small market today, with DAS and small cell vendors installing equipment in projects funded by the building owner and approved haphazardly by operators. Whoever does get Embedded DAS or Multi-operator DRS right, with blanket approval by major operators, will be able to address a huge pool of opportunity—in the range of $150 Billion," commented Chief Analyst Joe Madden.
