momondo Wins Google Material Design Award for App Innovation

Travel search site momondo.com is the winner of Google's prestigious Material Design Award for Innovation. This was announced at this year's SPAN Google Design conference. The award recognizes best-in-class design and is a first for momondo's Android app, originally launched in 2011.

For momondo, the award is a testament to the many hours of work invested in bringing the company's bold travel universe to their Android app. "To have won the category of Innovation is simply a fantastic achievement for us. We build apps that are not only great to use, but we aim to perfectly express our brand using Google's design guidelines as well as our own," says Pernille Trolle Broegaard, Lead Product Manager for Apps at momondo.

Google commended momondo's app for being true to the fundamentals of Material Design while still pushing the components into inspiring new directions.

Playful product vision 

momondo's vision is to enable and inspire everyone to be their own best travel agent, constantly experimenting with the app's design to take advantage of material patterns while maintaining the brand's bold and colorful identity.

For momondo's Android app the company worked closer with material design to absorb the underlying principles and apply them to the existing products, expanding the momondo design language beyond its original state and creating a holistic cross-platform experience.

Pernille Trolle continues: "We built the design language on a foundation of distinctive shades of purple, contrasted by bright and colorful gradients. Delightful transitions and beautiful imagery represent our aspiration to open the world through travel."
