MOM's Organic Market Celebrates 25 Years

ROCKVILLE, Md., July 18, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Maryland's homegrown organic grocery chain, MOM's Organic Market, announces the celebration of its 25th year in business this July.

In 1987, at the age of 22, Scott Nash, founder of MOM's Organic Market, started a home delivery/mail order company selling organic foods out of his mother's garage. The first delivery, made on July 2, was to a Rockville customer and totaled $52.34.

Two years later, in 1989, Vegetarian Times ordered a box of mail order produce from MOM's and published a positive review in their magazine. Hundreds of mail orders quickly followed. Soon thereafter, Diane Rehm produced a show discussing the chemical alar being sprayed on apples. A MOM's customer called the show and raved on air about MOM's organic produce.  According to Nash, "at the time, we had one phone with call waiting and the phone rang for three straight hours." Nash states that loyal customers and supportive communities have built MOM's foundation.

Since then, MOM's has grown to become the region's premier chain of family owned and operated organic grocery stores, offering an incredible selection of organic products at everyday low prices. MOM's Purpose, to protect and restore the environment can be seen in every aspect of the company, from the vendors it chooses to do business with to the many environmental initiatives it has put in place throughout the years.

MOM's celebrated its anniversary with a company wide event on June 30th and July 1st at all of its locations. MOM's stores offered live music, local vendor demos, kid's activities, tasty treats and free reusable bags.
