Money-Saving Deals and the Debut of "American Portrait" Highlight the Weekend Activities at Cedar Point

SANDUSKY, Ohio, June 1, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Cedar Point will add a new level of excitement to its entertainment package when American Portrait, a new nighttime show, will make its debut at the Sandusky, Ohio, amusement park/resort on Friday, June 3.

Sponsored by the Marathon Petroleum Company LP, American Portrait will feature lively music, vivid hi-res images and colorful pyrotechnics that will illuminate the evening sky.  The new show has a patriotic theme.  It is a salute to the troops and the land they protect.

The 15-minute program will be presented nightly at 10 p.m. through Aug. 21 on the park's 3,600-square-foot projection screen located on the Iron Dragon Midway.

"American Portrait will be fast-paced and dazzling," said John Hildebrandt, Cedar Point's vice president and general manager.  "Its mix of music and fireworks will be a perfect ending to a wonderful day at the park for everyone in the family."

Two other attractions will also be added to the park's entertainment lineup this weekend.  On Friday, the Starlight Experience that uses more than 1 million LED lights along the Frontier Trail will open while Rockin' the Point, featuring classic rock 'n' roll, will take the stage in the Jack Aldrich Theatre on the Main Midway beginning Saturday.  Overall, the park will have live performances in five different venues.

A tradition that spans more than two decades will return to the park this weekend when Cedar Point hosts the 23^rd annual CoasterMania! on Friday and Saturday, June 3 & 4.

During the two-day event, more than 1,500 coaster-enthusiasts from around the world will challenge the park's diverse collection of coasters.  Other special activities include special presentations and a coaster film festival.  (All participants must be registered members of a recognized roller-coaster-club to attend.)  

CoasterMania! is the largest coaster-enthusiasts event in the world.

As the weather heats up so do the ways guests can save money on a visit to the park.  Beginning Wednesday, June 1, Starlight admission will begin at 4 p.m. everyday through the end of the month.  Guests will be able to enjoy six hours of fun for only $29.99 from June 3-30.  (Cedar Point will close at 8 p.m. on June 1 & 2.)

Season Passholders and students will also have the opportunity to cash in on big savings this weekend.  Friday through Sunday, June 3-5, students (kindergarten through college with school ID) will be able to purchase an all-day ticket for only $31.99, while Season Passholders can share the fun of a day in the park with a friend and save $24.

Cedar Point's website, cedarpoint.com, also has some ways to save.  With The Mid-Week Saver guests can visit on a Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday in June for only $34.99 per ticket.  Now through June 19, the Early Season Four Pack allows guests to purchase four or more admission tickets for $37 each (Tickets are valid through Labor Day, Sept. 5.), while the Pay Once Visit Twice discount will begin on June 1 and lets guests purchase admission tickets valid any two days through Oct. 30 for only $64.  (Tickets must be used by the same person and have to be purchased by Labor Day.)  Please visit cedarpoint.com for all of the details.
