Monster Energy's Raul Rosas Jr. Defeats Raoni Barcelos by TKO at UFC Vegas 121

21-Year-Old Rosas Jr. from Clovis, New Mexico, Earns TKO Victory and Fight of the Night Bonus

LAS VEGAS, Sept. 28, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- Major victory for the rising star! Monster Energy congratulates MMA athlete Raul Rosas Jr. on defeating Raoni Barcelos at the UFC Fight Night in Las Vegas on Saturday night. In the headline fight contested in the Bantamweight division, the 21-year-old from Clovis, New Mexico, earned a TKO victory in the fifth round. The intense back-and-forth battle also earned both athletes the $100,000 Fight of the Night bonus.

UFC Fight Night: Rosas Jr. vs. Barcelos, also known as UFC Vegas 121, was contested in front of a live crowd at the Meta APEX in Las Vegas, Nevada. Featuring a total of five bouts on the Main Card and seven Prelims matchups, UFC Vegas 121 was broadcast live on Paramount+.

In Saturday night's featured Bantamweight fight, Monster Energy's Rosas Jr. (13-1) stepped into the Octagon as one of the UFC's fastest-rising prospects. Making his first-ever UFC main event appearance, "El Niño Problema" (The Problem Child) arrived at UFC Vegas 121 on a five-fight winning streak that, most recently included a victory over veteran Rob Font at UFC 326 in March 2026.

Rosas' opponent, Barcelos (22-6), stepped into the Octagon looking to derail the rising prospect and cement his place among the bantamweight division's top contenders. The Jiu-Jitsu black belt from Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, came to Las Vegas riding a five-fight victory streak, including a win over Montel Jackson in April 2026. Now the veteran was ready to give Rosas his toughest challenge to date.

The headline event got underway with Rosas pressing the action, throwing combinations and calf kicks as Barcelos covered up in the opening moments. But the Brazilian veteran responded with body shots and a takedown attempt. Immediately, Rosas popped back up and landed a big left hook that opened a bloody cut on Barcelos' face in the opening round. As Rosas continued to pepper the veteran with strikes, Barcelos fired back with hard body shots to shift the momentum his way.

Rounds 2 and 3 unfolded as an intense back-and-forth war, with Barcelos repeatedly taking the fight to the ground, using his Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu to pressure Rosas against the fence and secure top position. Although Rosas also suffered visible damage, he escaped and battled back to standing, wobbling Barcelos with a straight right in Round 2 and landing counter combinations at a rapid clip.

Round 4 marked a massive turn as Barcelos took over the action: The veteran dragged Rosas to the canvas, took his back, and locked in a rear-naked choke that had Rosas in serious trouble as the round concluded. Heading into the final frame, Rosas was down on the scorecards and needed something big.

The fifth round marked one of the most stunning turnarounds in recent UFC memory: Knowing he needed a finish, Rosas came out swinging with electric energy, landing a jumping knee to start the round and unleashing sharp combinations that had the crowd on its feet. After Barcelos tried to slow the pace with a takedown attempt, Rosas fired off another jumping knee, then a heavy body shot before taking control at the fence and slamming Barcelos to the canvas.

As soon as Barcelos hit the ground, he went limp, appearing to have been knocked unconscious on the way down. Recognizing his opponent was unresponsive, Rosas refrained from adding damage and stood up in victory. Referee Herb Dean stepped in to end the contest at 1:38 of Round 5, awarding Rosas the TKO victory in his first-ever UFC main event.

Rosas Jr. immediately called for the $100,000 Fight of the Night bonus in his Octagon interview, and would later receive it. "We're back at it! I'm 21 years old putting on performances like that in main events. I'm going to need those 100 G's."

After bursting onto the UFC scene as the youngest fighter to earn a UFC contract at 17, Rosas now stands as the youngest fighter ever to enter the UFC rankings at 21. Looking ahead, he's focused on rising through the 135-pound division: "I climb up to top six, top seven," said Rosas, adding: "We worked really hard. Thanks to everybody who supported me.
