Monster Energy's Tom Schaar Takes First Place in Skateboard Park at Rockstar Energy Open

PORTLAND, Ore., Aug. 18, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- Bringing the heat to Portland! Monster Energy congratulates team rider Tom Schaar on claiming first place in the Men's Skateboard Park at the 2025 Rockstar Energy Open in Portland on Sunday. In the annual skateboard competition held at Tom McCall Waterfront Park, the 25-year-old from Malibu, California, rose above the competition with a flawless run.

From August 15-17, the Rockstar Energy Open brought some of the world's leading street and park skateboarders to Portland's waterfront district. Over the course of the weekend, more than 100 riders hailing from across the globe competed for $230,000 in prize money. The free-to-attend event also featured musical performances and fan activations.

Energy levels were high in the Men's Skateboard Park finals on the California Skateparks-designed course in front of a capacity crowd on Sunday. Rising to the occasion, Monster Energy's Schaar found the perfect line and claimed the victory on Run 2 after missing a trick in his first run.

Stringing together frontside tailslide, frontside 5-0 over the hip, huge backside 540 tailgrab the extension, stalefish tweak the hip, frontside Smith stall on the ledge obstacle, frontside blunt, frontside feeble the corner, heelflip Indy the extension, kickflip Indy fakie, Caballerial backside disaster, alley-oop backside tailgrab the hip, bigspin backside lipslide, and huge blindside ollie fakie the hip earned Schaar a score of 90.50 points and a dominant win.

Taking his final run as a victory lap, Schaar upped the ante by landing alley-oop kickflip Indy the hip, alley-oop frontside 5-0 fakie, and a nearly landed switch kickflip to end his weekend in Portland with an exclamation point.

Also raising the bar in Portland on Sunday, Monster Energy's Liam Pace from Tucson, Arizona, landed a massive transfer air from small to big bowl that had spectators on their feet. When all was said and done, Pace took seventh place overall with his highest run score of 81.00 points.

The weekend's action culminated in the Men's Skateboard Street final on Sunday. In a field including Olympic competitors and Street League Skateboarding (SLS) winners, 15-year-old Monster Army recruit Julian Agliardi from Long Beach, California, rose all the way to second place.

Agliardi found his perfect run on the third and final attempt: A highly technical run featuring kickflip backside lipslide the big rail, backside ollie to tail the quarter pipe, gap frontside 180 to switch crooked the box to ledge, nollie backside 270 boardslide the flat rail, 360 kickflip the hip, frontside bigspin boardslide the Euro Gap ledge, kickflip frontside 50-50 the big rail, frontside lipslide the flat rail, and bigspin frontside hurricane the big rail netted the young upstart 91.93 points and second place in Portland.
