Monterey Museum Of Art Appoints New Executive Director

MONTEREY, Calif., Aug. 9, 2013 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- After a highly competitive national search and evaluation of a distinguished range of candidates, the Monterey Museum of Art has selected Charlotte N. Eyerman, Ph.D. as its Executive Director. With twenty years of success in museums, academia, and the private sector, including experience as director, curator, strategist, and project manager, Dr. Eyerman brings a new level of expertise to the Museum. "Charlotte's curatorial and scholarly achievements, combined with her collaborative spirit and skills in management, administration, and strategic planning make her ideally suited to strengthen our organization, and engage and motivate our community." The Board was assisted by Olive Grove Consulting in the search, which attracted museum and non-profit talent from across the U.S.

Dr. Eyerman currently serves as Director of FRAME in North America, a position she has held since 2010. FRAME (French Regional American Museum Exchange) is a consortium of 26 major museums. It fosters partnerships among its members by developing high-quality exhibitions, educational and public programs, and professional exchanges.

Dr. Eyerman's experience also includes strategic and curatorial work for the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County. She curated its critically acclaimed exhibition in conjunction with the J. Paul Getty Trust's Pacific Standard Time initiative, as well as a forthcoming contemporary art exhibition opening this fall. She has also provided strategic consulting and project direction for the Pasadena Arts Council; served as a Director at Gagosian Gallery in Beverly Hills; Curator and Department Head of Modern and Contemporary Art at the Saint Louis Art Museum; and Assistant Curator of Paintings at the J. Paul Getty Museum. Prior to her work in museums, Charlotte was on the faculty at Union College in Schenectady, NY, where she was named the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Assistant Professor for Excellence in Scholarship and Teaching.

Dr. Eyerman earned her Ph.D. and M.A. in the History of Art from the University of California at Berkeley, and a B.A. in English from the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, MA. She has curated numerous exhibitions of modern and contemporary art nationally and internationally, and has published and lectured broadly. She comes to the Museum with an extensive international network of colleagues in museums, galleries, auction houses, foundations and academia, as well as with artists and collectors. Charlotte is fluent in French and has lived and worked in France, Italy, and Germany.

Dr. Eyerman will relocate to the Monterey area from Los Angeles and will begin her new role in early October.
