Most expensive house in Alexandria set for March 12 auction

ALEXANDRIA, La., Feb. 18, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- A decade ago, businessman Aaron Slayter Sr. created Maison Bonne Vive ("The Good Life"), an elegant 20,000-square-foot home with such features as a separate 3,000-square-foot entertaining area, 150-year-old chandeliers and a natural gas generator big enough to power the entire property.

Now, he is preparing to offer the home at auction, with Bonnette Auction Company marketing the estate jointly with Ritchie Real Estate. The home was designed by Simone Guillory Architects and modeled after the famous Oak Alley Plantation Home. With its massive columns and stately oaks in the heart of the city, it is one of the area's best known landmarks.

"Without a doubt, this is the best-recognized home in Alexandria due to its size and location. Less than three years ago, it was on the market for $3.9 million, which would be the highest asking price in Rapides Parish. Now, we'll let the bidders determine its market price. Someone may well own this for a fraction of what Mr. Slayter has in it," said Barbara Bonnette, president of the auction company.

Matt Ritchie, of Ritchie Real Estate, said the home was "completed 10 years ago with the vision to be the ultimate in quality and prestige." He added that "the owner spared no expense when it came to superior craftsmanship."

The home, located at 2019 Horseshoe Drive, Alexandria, sits on approximately 4 acres and has five bedrooms, six full baths, a large office with custom Mahogany bookcases, a rooftop deck, a grand double staircase, a custom wine bar, an Italian marble fountain, and a safe room with foot-thick walls.

It will be open for inspections from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 21. The live auction will begin at 9 a.m. Saturday, March 12 at the home. Individuals seeking additional information may visit or call 318-443-6614.

"Given the size and location of Maison Bonne Vive, it could serve not only as a very exclusive private residence, but also as a corporate headquarters or professional office. It would be the ultimate prestige address for a law or financial services firm," said Bonnette.

Bonnette Auctions, based in Alexandria, markets a wide range of assets, including land, commercial and industrial real estate, business liquidations and vehicles.
