Movement Bank names David Rupp as next Chief Executive Officer

DANVILLE, Va., Dec. 20, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Movement Bank is pleased to announce it has selected David Rupp as its next chief executive officer, effective Jan. 1, 2019.

Rupp will succeed Tom Smith, who will retire at the end of the year.

Rupp brings extensive experience to the role with a 30-year career in finance, retail and small business banking and community banking. Rupp most recently served as chief executive at Raleigh-based Four Oaks Bank. Prior to that role, he held executive leadership roles in community banking at VantageSouth Bank and Greystone Bank. He also led consumer and small business banking at Birmingham, Alabama-based Regions Financial Corp., and served in leadership roles at First Union and Bank of America.

Rupp will succeed chief executive Tom Smith, who has decided to retire. Smith has faithfully served Movement Bank for 18 months, leading the bank through a period of exciting change. Smith supervised a $10 million recapitalization and rebranding effort in 2017, which led to sustained growth. He also led the implementation of a new online banking platform. Bank total assets increased by more than 40 percent during his tenure.
